When There's Nothing You Can Do
by Tina L. Miller

Another evening newscast. Another depressing situation miles removed from your home and yet deeply impressed upon your heart. Someone is grieving for a loved one killed in a car accident. Another family lost their home to a fire. Still someone else was seriously injured in an act of gang violence. What can you do? You can't bring someone back from the dead. You cannot restore that family's home or replace the irreplaceable things that family lost. You alone cannot stop gang wars.

You hear a siren wailing in the distance. A siren is never good news. A minute later the ambulance pulls up in front of a neighbor's home and you learn the elderly gentleman who goes for his daily walk past your house every afternoon has suffered a heart attack.

Your best friend calls in tears. Her mother has just been diagnosed with cancer and she is distraught. Your father-in-law calls to tell you your mother-in-law has just passed away. Though you knew it was coming, it is still a blow to you, your husband, and your children. It's hard to find the words to ease their pain.

What can you do?

When the troubles of the world seem too heavy to bear and you just don't know what to do, there's something you can do.

Pray.

Pray for the souls who are hurting. Pray for the people in pain and in tears. Pray for those who have lost. Pray for those who must learn to go on. Pray for an end to violence and destruction. Pray for healing. Pray for peace.

Then tell those people you are praying for them. You'd be amazed at the miracles you'll witness before your very eyes.
