A 50 minutes flight from Kolkata brings you to the state capital, Agartala, from where visit to the famous wildlife sanctuary of Sepahijala is just 30 Kms away by road along the state highway. Sepahijala has its own ‘Abasarika’ bunglow and tourists lodge for visitors. The sanctuary is a sprawling expanse of 18 Kms and is home to over 150 species of rare birds and animals. The sanctuary includes a zoo, picnic spots, a lake for boat rides, a toy train for kids and joy rides on elephant back. Mountain orchids are an added attraction.

Tripura boasts of three other wildlife sanctuaries besides Sepahijala- The Gumti Sanctuary in south–eastern corner of the state, which is spread across 390sq. Kms; Rowa Sanctuary in north Tripura which has one of the few reremnants of natural forests accessible to visitors and Trishan Sanctuary in south Tripura.
